Birthday invitations that open with a bit of theatre: confetti, music and a countdown to the party. Guests reply in a tap, you see who is coming, and a reminder goes out before the day.
A short guide
Two to three weeks ahead suits most birthday parties. Allow three to four weeks for a weekend near a holiday, a party that needs travel, or a venue that wants numbers early. For a casual dinner with close friends, a week or ten days is usually enough, though more notice is always kind.
Write whose birthday it is, the date, the start and end time, the address and a reply-by date. Then add what changes what guests do: a theme or dress code, whether partners or children are welcome, and anything to bring. One friendly opening line is plenty; the details matter more than clever wording.
Keep it short and warm, near the end of the invitation. Lines such as “Your company is the only gift we need” or “No gifts, please, just come and celebrate” work well. If you would welcome something else instead, such as a donation to a named charity, say so plainly in one sentence.
Say it is a surprise in the first line, so nobody misses it. Give guests an arrival time earlier than the guest of honour’s, tell them where to park out of sight, and name who to contact with questions instead of the birthday person. Send it only to guests, never to a shared family chat.
