Celebrate the years: photos then and now, a few words about the couple and a reply card, for a 25th, a 50th or any year worth marking.
A short guide
Name the couple, the milestone and, if you like, their wedding date. Then give the date, time and venue of the celebration, who is hosting, and a reply-by date. Add a line about gifts if the couple would rather not receive any, and mention a vow renewal if one is planned.
Traditionally the couple’s children or close family host a milestone anniversary, though many couples now host their own. The invitation should make it clear, for example “Together with their children” or “Hosted by Sophie and James”, so guests know who is inviting them and who to contact with questions.
Use one warm sentence at the end, such as “Your presence is the only gift we ask” or “No gifts, please; we would love a favourite memory instead.” If the couple would welcome donations to a cause they support, name it simply. Avoid putting registry details on an anniversary invitation unless the couple asks for them.
Send them four to six weeks before a 25th, 40th or 50th celebration, and earlier as a save the date if family must fly in. For a smaller dinner, two to three weeks is enough. Ask for replies about two weeks before the party so you can confirm numbers with the venue.
