A year already. Designs for the first birthday with room for photos from the first twelve months, the party details and a reply card.
A short guide
Send first birthday invitations three to four weeks before the party, and ask for replies about a week before. If family is travelling from other cities or abroad, or the party is a large one at a hired venue, send a save the date or a message six to eight weeks ahead.
Choose a time that fits around the baby’s naps, usually late morning or mid-afternoon after a nap. Keep the party to about two hours, so the birthday child is not overtired, and put both the start and end times on the invitation so guests can plan around their own children.
Say it simply and warmly, for example “Your presence is the only gift we need” or “No gifts please, just bring your smiles”. Some families suggest a book for the baby’s library or a donation instead. Put the line at the end of the invitation, after the date and place.
Most families invite grandparents, close relatives and friends, and the parents of children the baby already knows. There is no rule on numbers. Many parents keep the list small for the baby’s comfort, while others hold a larger family celebration. Make clear on the invitation whether children and siblings are welcome.
