For a housewarming party or a gruhapravesam: the muhurtham or party time, the new address with a map so nobody gets lost, and a reply card.
A short guide
Write that you have moved, who is hosting, the date and time, the full new address with any unit number or gate code, parking notes and a reply-by date. Add whether it is an open house or a set mealtime. A friendly first line such as “We’ve moved, come and see the new place” is enough.
Many families begin with a blessing or an invocation to Lord Ganesha, then invite guests to the Gruhapravesam of their new home, naming the hosts and often their parents. Give the date, the muhurtham time, the address and when lunch or dinner is served. Wording varies by language and family, so follow your elders.
There is no fixed rule. Many people host within the first few months, once the boxes are unpacked and the main rooms are furnished. A Gruhapravesam is different: it is usually held before or as the family moves in, on a date and time chosen with a priest.
It is customary to bring something small, such as a plant, candles, good coffee, a bottle of wine or a dish for the home. At a Gruhapravesam, many guests bring sweets, fruit or something useful for the house. If the invitation says no gifts, a card with a kind note is enough.
