Crescent moons and lanterns for Eid dinners and family gatherings: the day, the time and a reply card.
A short guide
Begin with “Eid Mubarak” or another greeting, then name which Eid, the expected day, the time, the address and how to reply. Add a note that the date depends on the moon sighting, and mention the meal. If children will receive Eidi or there are activities for them, families appreciate knowing.
Plan for it from the start. Write “the first day of Eid” alongside the expected date, and tell guests you will confirm once the moon is sighted. When the day is known, send a short update to everyone. Most guests are used to this and will keep both days loosely free.
Invite guests to break the fast with you, give the date and the address, and set the arrival time a little before sunset, with the time of iftar itself. Mention if there will be prayer before the meal. Many hosts write “Please join us for iftar” and welcome guests who are not fasting too.
“Eid Mubarak”, meaning “blessed Eid”, is the most common greeting worldwide. Many Arabic speakers also say “Eid Saeed”, meaning “happy Eid”. In South Asia, people often reply to Eid Mubarak with “Khair Mubarak”. Any of these is a warm way to open an Eid invitation.
